Main Street Facade Grant

Main Street Façade Grant Funding for the Designated Main Street District

The Town of Thurmont is pleased to announce the availability of grant funding thanks to the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) for external façade improvements to qualifying Commercial properties located within the state designated Main Street district. This is a matching grant which means the Main Street façade grant program will match every dollar invested by the business up to 10,000.00. For example, if your rehab totals $5,000.00, the façade grant program will fund $2,500.00 once the project has been approved by the Maryland Historical Trust .

What Types of Improvements Are Eligible for Funding?

  • Exterior cleaning, painting, and/or paint removal
  • Masonry repair and repainting
  • Repair and replacement of architectural details or materials
  • New awnings or the rehabilitation of existing awnings
  • Roof repair or new roof
  • Exterior lighting
  • Storefront/porch/entrance construction/repair
  • Rehabilitation or compatible reconstruction of storefronts
  • New signage

Applicants should be able to clearly demonstrate how their project will contribute to improving our downtown business community and character.  Proposed improvements that are more visible, those that have a direct positive impact on your business, and those that promote increased customer/visitor presence downtown are preferred. All projects submitted will be given full consideration.
